The Seine et Marne patrimony

Using the local patrimony is a means to make the historical approach more realistic for the pupil, and allows reinforcing of the usage of chronology covering several different periods.



Numerous activities are possible depending on the sites chosen by the teacher:

Nemours : Pre-history

- Visit of the Pre-history museum
- emonstration in a workshop: cutting a flint, « making » fire, shooting with a propellent


Blandy les Tours :
the Middle-Ages
- Visit the castle
- Various workshops: weapons, siege techniques, every day life…


Provins : the Middle-Ages
- Visit the old town, classified in the world patrimony
- Workshops : calligraphy, heraldry, stained glass

Vaux le Vicomte : XVII century
- Visit the castle and its gardens.

Fontainebleau: the Renaissance and the Empire
- Visit of the castle and its gardens
- Choice of workshops.

Barbizon, the painters’ village
- Visit the Ganne Inn.
- Painting workshops.

The duration of this stay can vary from 3 to 21 days.

Visit the painter Rosa Bonheur’s workshop in Thomery, the sculpter, Chapu’s museum in Mée sur Seine, the poet Mallarmé in Vulaines sur Seine, and the industrial city in Noisiel. These visits give the opportunity to expose the pupils to some key evidence of 19th century art, literature and architecture.

Hosting site : de Bois le Roi international centre.

Program :

Day 1: Arrival, for an afternoon snack. Visit and discovery of the centre.
Day 2: Visit Vaux-le-Vicomte castle. Workshop at the Departmental Archives Centre.
Day 3: A day at the Ganne Inn. Visit and workshop “Paint like the impressionists”.
Day 4: A day in Fontainebleau. The Fontainebleau castle and the « Salle du Jeu de Paume » (initiation).
Day 5: A day in Moret-sur-Loing: discover Alfred de Sisley and visit the « Sucre d’orge » museum (local speciality of sweets).

Day 6: Packing. Return trip.
